about the Staff..

Craig Thompson Head Coach

Head Coach, Craig Thompson, is a 1983 graduate of Enterprise High School. Craig was an outstanding linebacker for the 1983 & 1984 Knights football team. Coach Thompson was named to the JC All American Team in 1983> After leaving Shasta College he played football for Humboldt State where he was an All-Conference linebacker for 2 years. While getting his masters at
CSU-Humboldt, he set a goal of some day coming back to Shasta College to coach. Coach Thompson currently is living his dream. Craig and his wife Renee have three girls, Alisha (17) and Amy (11) & Emily (6).

Matt Diskin – Defensive Coordinator 
 
Coach Diskin begins his 17th year of coaching at Shasta College. Matt is a ’79 graduate of Cantwell HS in Montebello, CA after which he attended East LA College where he was selected All-Metro in football. Matt went on to earn his BA degree from Humboldt State University in ’84. Matt later became an elementary school teacher with the Gateway Union School District for the 14 years and decided to return to Humboldt State to earn his Masters Degree in 2001. Matt is truly committed to education and as he currently serves in an administrator capacity at Rocky Point Charter School in the Gateway School District. Matt and his wife Cheryl have two boys, Sam (16 yrs.) and (Bill 13 yrs.).

Steve Campos – Special Teams Coordinator/Running Backs Coach   

Steve enters his sixth season at Shasta College as a coach. A graduate of Hirem W. Johnson HS, Sacramento, CA, Steve was a member of the Knight’s football team from ’96 through ’98. Steve completed his BA degree at Simpson University and before he became a coach at Shasta College, served as Head Coach at Bishop Quinn High School. Steve is kept busy with three beautiful daughters twins Olivia and Natalie (9 yrs.) and Malanni (16 months).

Howard Gay - Offensive Coordinator 

Howard enters his third year with the Knight’s - his second as the Offensive Coordinator. Howard came to Shasta after coaching 23 years at San Jose City College. While at SJCC, he was the head coach and had a very successful program, winning the State Championship in 1986 and National Junior College Championship 11-0. While attending the University of Hawaii, Howard played quarterback for the Rainbow Warriors. After completing his education Howard started teaching and coaching high school football in Hawaii. Howard and his wife Kathy are the proud parents of two adult children and have two grandchildren.

Blaine Gudath – Defensive Backs Coach

Blaine begins his third year on as a coach with the Knights. Before he joining the Knight’s staff, Blaine was the Head Football Coach at Bishop Quinn and Mercy High School, in Red Bluff. While at Mercy, Blaine won two Section Championships. Blaine also has served has an Assistant Track & Field Coach here at Shasta College. Blaine and his wife Cheryl have been married for 30 years and are blessed to have raised a wonderful son, Kyle, who was taken from us all much too soon.

Robert Waterman – Defensive Line Coach

Coach Waterman graduated from Foothill High School in 1996 and then attended Shasta College and played football during the ’98 and ’99 seasons. After graduating from Shasta, Robert attended and played two years at Rocky Mountain College in Montana. Robert has had coaching experience as an assistant at Foothill High School.

Brian Wehler - Assistant WR coach

Roger Hatton - Field Manager

Roger is a graduate of Aloha High School in Aloha, OR - Class of ‘79. He then enrolled at Shasta College and joined our staff as team manager in fall of 1999. Rogers’s role on the team is to set-up and assist coaches with practice equipment and to do whatever it takes to make practice sessions run smoother. Roger also coaches youth soccer with the Anderson Youth Soccer League. Roger also coached the U14 boys traveling team, and in 2005 was honored as Coach of the Year for District 9 which includes the whole upper North State. Roger and his wife Charlene have four daughters, and two grandchildren.
