(4/24/01-Fall River Golf Course, Fall
River) The Shasta College Golf Team repeats as
Golden Valley Conference Champions beating
Butte College by 13 strokes in
Fall River in the last league match of the year. The Knights have now
won the GVC Championship in 3 out of the last 4 seasons. Butte College
finishes 2nd, with College of the Redwoods finishing in 3rd and Lassen
College picking up 4th. In a close match with Butte College the Knights
won with a score of 392 to Butte's 405. Shasta was leading Butte College
by only 2 strokes with 5 of the 6 players in the clubhouse. The Knights
anxiously awaited Nate Adkins finish, as all of the teams surrounded
the 18th green. Nate's 76 iced the victory for the Knights. Billy Speer
shot 75, Brian Vokal and Mike Waddell both had 79 and Willy Hendrix
shot 83. With the Conference championship, Shasta College advances to
the Northern California Championship at Corral de Tierra Country Club
in Salinas California on May 7th. Thirty-six holes await the six Shasta
College golfers as they try to follow last year's team by winning a
berth in the "elite eight" at the State Golf Championship in Sacramento.
Shasta was also rewarded for it's outstanding season by having 4 golfers
named to the All Conference Team. Shasta College Freshman Mike Waddell
was joined by Sophomore's Billy Speer, Brian Vokal and Nate Adkins in
taking 4 of the 6 spots on the All Golden Valley Conference Golf Team.
Knights In A Tie
ONE MATCH TO GO
(4/24/01-Susanville) With
one match to go the Shasta College Golf Team finds itself in a tie for
the conference championship. Turn about was fair play as the Knights
lost by 17 strokes (which is the same number they won by the previous
week at Gold Hills Country Club) to Butte College. Freshman Mike Waddell
shot 72, Brian Vokal 76, Billy Speer 77, Will Ramsdell 81, and Nate
Adkins 86, for a 392 total. Butte had five players in the 70's to shoot
a 375. Next week's match at Fall River Golf Course will determine the
GVC Conference Champion. College of the Redwoods finished 3rd with Lassen
College finishing 4th at Emerson Lake Golf Course.
Knights Back On Top
BRIAN VOKAL WITH A 71
(4/23/01-Gold Hills G.C.)
With two matches to go for the GVC title the Knights
have put themselves into the drivers seat. At Gold Hills golf course
on Monday the Knights knocked off Butte College by 17 strokes, 380-397
to take over sole possession of first place. College of the Redwoods
finished 3rd at 427 and Lassen College did not finish. Medalist for
the day was the Knight's Brian Vokal who shot a one under par 71. The
rest of the Knight scoring came from Billy Speer (74), Mike Waddell
(76), Willie Hendrix (78) and Nate Adkins (81). The Knights need to
win one of the remaining two matches to repeat as league champs.
Two Straight & Back In First
TIED UP WITH 3 TO GO
(4/17/01-Eureka)
The Knights finished off a nice trip to the coast by beating Butte twice
in two days. With their two day sweep the Knights are tied with Butte
with 3 matches remaining in GVC play. The 2000 defending GVC champs
were lead on Tuesday by Nate Adkins (76), Billy Speer & Willie Hendrix
(77s), Will Ramsdell (79) and Sean Brasher (82). Tuesday's match at
Eureka Municipal Golf Course was won by the Knights 391 to Butte's 393.
Host College of the Redwoods finished third with a 412. The Knights
beat Butte by 10 strokes on Monday at Beau Pre Golf Course. Shasta will
try to take over first place on Monday (4/23/01) at Gold Hills Golf
Course with the match starting at 1:00 PM.
Knights Beat Butte
FIVE STROKE WIN
(4/16/01-Beau Pre - McKinleyville)
With Billy Speer leading the way the Knights got back into the GVC race
with a 396-406 victory over Butte College. Billy was hot shooting an
even par 71 to lead the Knights. Nearing the end of the league season
the GVC race has come down to a two team race between Butte and Shasta.
Other finishers for the Knights were Brian Vokal (78), Sean Brasher
(82), Nate Adkins (82) and Will Ramsdell (83).
Knights Back In First
SEAN BRASHER ONE UNDER 71!
(3/20/01-Wilcox Oaks Golf Course, Red
Bluff) All it took for the Knights to get back
a share of the GVC lead was a familiar course and some good golf. The
Knights got both in their GVC win on Tuesday at Wilcox Oaks Golf Course.
Under cloudy skies and sometimes a light rain, the Knights shot a team
total of 398 to beat Butte (416), Redwoods (453) and Lassen (521). Sean
Brasher, from Red Bluff High School, was medalist with a fine 1 under
par 71. Other scoring Knights were Brian Vokal (77), Nate Adkins (81),
Mike Waddell (84) and Billy Speer (85). Shasta and Butte are now tied
for the GVC lead.
Temperature Up, Scores Down
SPEER WITH A 71
(3/13/01-Bidwell Golf Course, Chico)
Defending Golden Valley Champions, Shasta College, opened defense of
it's championship by posting it's lowest score of the year, a 383. It
was also the first match of the year for two sport star, Billy Speer.
Billy, an All GVC basketball player for the GVC Champion Knights, shot
a 71 to lead the Knights. Mike Waddell followed with a 76, Brian Vokal
also a 76, Nate Adkins had a 79 and Sean Brasher and Willie Hendrix
with 81's. The Knights 383 was only good for second place as Butte College
shot a 374. College of the Redwoods was third and Lassen College was
forth.
Knights Drop Sierra, Again
NATE ADKINS WITH LOW SCORE
(3/6/01-Sunset Whitney C.C.)
For the second time this season the Knights beat Sierra College on the
golf course. This time it was in Rocklin at the Sunset-Whitney Country
Club, the Knights won 424-437. Nate Adkins led the way with a 79, followed
by Brian Vokal, Mike Waddell and Willie Hendrix each with an 86, and
Will Ramsdell with an 87. The scores were higher than normal because
of the conditions, it was cool, with a mild breeze on a swampy 6,607
yard course.
Knights Cut Down Redwoods
HENDRIX & WADDELL MEDALISTS
(2/27/01-Riverview G & CC)
The Shasta golf team cut down College of the Redwoods on Tuesday, 398
to 417, at Riverview Golf and Country Club. Medalist honors went to
two Knights, Willie Hendrix and Mike Waddell, both shot a 4 over 76
. Weather conditions were good with mild temperature (62) with high
clouds and a slight breeze. To round out the scoring for the Knights
Brian Vokal carded a 77, Nate Adkins had an 82 and Sean Brasher and
Robb Travis both shot 87's.
