Rachel Named All Conference
NEXT UP NORCAL
(11/8/07-Lincoln) Shasta College Lady Knight, Rachael Barry finished the season in sixth place to qualify as All Conference. Her top ten finish allowed her to compete at the Northern California Community College Women’s Golf Championship. The Nor Cals were held at the beautiful Turkey Creek Golf Club in Lincoln, California. The ladies of the Big 8 conference enjoyed perfect weather for the two day competition. The golf course was in beautiful shape. The Turkey Creek layout is a fairly tough test of golf. The gals seemed to struggle with their scores the first day. The lowest round of the day was shot by Robin Fernstrom of Sierra College with a score of 80. The second day scores were lower. Robin shot a 77 on the second day for a two day total of 157 to win Medalist Honors for the championship. Samantha Kang from Canada College took runner-up honors with scores of 81, 83 for a two day total of 164. Rachael Barry struggled her first day of the competition with a much higher than normal score. She came back with an improved outlook the second day and scored better, posting an 87 for the day. Barry experienced a loss of confidence in her swing going into the Nor Cals. The tough Turkey Creek track just added to her struggles. The fact that she was able to recover on the second day of the tournament was very commendable. Rachael performed well during her first year of Community College Golf competition. The coaches look forward to having Rachael, Caitlyn Zielenski, and Megan Morgan back for their sophomore years and second year of golf competition. We all thank Elisa Coyle for taking the time from her busy work schedule to attend classes full-time and complete our golf team. Coach Szody saw a big improvement in Elisa’s game, and hopes the lessons learned will serve her well in her future golf experiences. Elisa was able to shoot her two lowest career rounds this season, both of which were during competition. Sierra College finished in first place with team scores of 344 and 334 for a two day total of 678. Fresno City College finished in second place with team scores of 353 and 341 for a two day total of 694. The two top teams and top twelve individuals will be competing in the State Championship at Belmont Country Club in Fresno on November 12th and 13th.

Rachel Qualifies for NorCals
KNIGHTS FINISH IN 3rd
(November 1, 2007-Coach Szody)
The location of the last match of the Big 8 Women’s Golf Conference was the Metro Golf Links in Oakland, California. The weather was cool and overcast for most of the day. The links style course was in good shape and the mild breeze was not much of factor in the scoring. The Lady Knights played fairly consistent in the last match of the season. Three of the Lady Knights shot consistent scores to end the season. Rachael Barry shot an 88, which was a little higher than her average scores for the season. The Shasta Lady Knights managed to play consistently enough to finish the season right behind the strong Sacramento City College Panthers and the Sierra Wolverines who tied with a total of 239 points each. The Shasta College Lady Knights finished with a point total of 175, good enough to finish in 2nd place just in front of the Butte College Lady Roadrunners who had a total of 166. The American River College Lady Beavers finished in fourth place with a total of 134. Napa Valley College finished in 5 th place with a total of 89. Laney College Lady Eagles earned a season total of 26. The Modesto Lady Pirates were unable to field a full team for most of the season, but did post enough team scores to earn a season total of 26.Rachael Barry ended the season with a low enough scoring average of 83.7 to qualify for All Conference. She finished in sixth place out of ten to qualify. Rachael’s 6th place finish out of the top twelve low scorers for the season allows her to compete in the Nor Cal Championship. Sacramento City College and Sierra College ended the season tied with 239 points to finish in 1st place. Shasta College finished in 2nd place alone with a total of 175 points for the season. Butte College finished in 3rd place with a season total of 166; American River College finished the season with 134 points and Napa Valley College finished with a season total of 89. Laney College finished the season with a total of 26. Modesto Jr. College was unable to field a team for the season.Coach Szody and Coach Giovannoni are extremely proud of the entire team and very pleased with the effort they put forth this season. This season’s Lady Knights Golf Team finished with the lowest team scoring average thus far in the history of Shasta College Women’s Golf. With the addition of a couple gals from the high school ranks next season the Lady Knights should be able to contend strongly in the Big 8 conference in 2008. Nor Cals will be held at Turkey Creek Golf Club in Lincoln on Monday and Tuesday, November 4 th and 5 th. Tee times will begin at 9:00 a.m. each day.

Finishing Strong
KNIGHTS BACK IN THIRD
(10/30/07-Ripon-Coach Szody)
The next to the last match of the conference season was held at the beautiful Spring Valley Country Club in Ripon, Ca. The ladies of the Big 8 conference enjoyed wonderful weather and superb course conditions. The greens were consistent and the tree-lined fairways beautifully manicured. The Lady Knights played solid golf today finishing with a solid team score to secure the third place position in the Big 8 conference. The Lady Knights lost the third place lead only once during the season. They came back strong last Tuesday at El Rancho Chico Golf Course in Chico to regain the third place post. Shasta Lady Knights gave Sacramento City College, the first place team, a scare both last Thursday and today by finishing within 4 and 6 strokes respectively. Sierra College Lady Wolverines are trailing Sacramento City College Lady Panthers by only two strokes going into the last match of the season. The Lady Wolverines and Lady Panthers have been finishing 1 st and 2 nd throughout the season. The Lady Knights are in the position of playing the part of “spoiler” during the last match #16. If the Lady Knights can tie Sacramento City College, and Sierra takes 1st place on Thursday then Sierra College can finish one stroke ahead of the Panthers to capture the conference championship for the second year in a row. The season ending match will prove fun and exciting for the conference competitors. Sierra College: 1st, 351; Sacramento City College: 2nd, 372; Shasta College: 3rd, 378; American River College: 4th, 407; Butte College; 5th; 418; Laney College: 6th, 423. Napa Valley College and Modesto City College did not field full teams this week. Caitlyn Zielenski shot a little higher than average score today, posting a 97. She continues to hit really great shots and Coach Szody is hoping to see her finish strong in the last match with a score in the 80’s. Megan Morgan shot a very good round today, posting a 95. Her scores are improving and she definitely has the capability of finishing Thursday’s round in the 80’s. Elisa Coyle was hitting excellent drives, but she wasn’t getting the ball into the hole to score under 100 today. She has been playing with pneumonia the last two matches. Fatigue could be a factor. Rachael Barry played good enough to shoot an 86 to tie for runner-up in today’s match. Rachael’s solid play should qualify her to travel to Turkey Creek in Lincoln to compete in the Northern California Championship on Monday and Tuesday next week. Kristina Casillas from Sacramento City College and Any Cowan from Sierra College tied for Medalist with scores of 84. Rachael Barry from Shasta College and Robin Fernstrom from Sierra College tied for Runners-Up with scores of 86. The final match will be played at Metropolitan Golf Course in Oakland at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 1 st. Laney Community College will be hosting.

Bartley Cavanaugh Course
Knights Take Fifth
(10/18/07-Coach Szody) Good weather prevailed at Bartley Cavanaugh Golf Course today. The public course was in fair condition. The Lady Knights shot decent scores, but the scores were not sufficient enough to finish above fifth place in the Big 8 conference today. The Lady Knights are now in danger of allowing the Butte College Lady Roadrunners to overtake the #3 spot in the league. The Lady Roadrunners are only trailing the Lady Knights by one point. Rachael Barry held on to shoot an 83 today. She was relatively disappointed with her driving today. She just wasn’t able to convert enough pars to get her score into the 70’s range. Caitlyn Zielenski continues to play solid, consistent golf. She shot a very nice 94 today. Her swing and overall game looks good right now, and Coach Szody is expecting her to be able to shoot a couple more scores in the 80’s before season’s end. Megan Morgan shot a 93 today and is getting her game stabilized. She is looking more comfortable in competition. She is enjoying the camaraderie of her playing partners and it is showing in her game. Elisa Coyle is struggling with her game, not being able to save enough pars to stay out of triple digits. The 108 is not typical. Her swing is good right now, and Coach Szody feels that she will get back on track as soon as she can learn to mentally recover from the occasional misadventure on the course. This task is probably the most difficult for any competitive golfer to accomplish. Elisa is working on this aspect of her game very hard. Due diligence should pay off for her in the upcoming events. The Medalist for the day was Kristina Casillas with a beautiful round of 68. Team Finishes: Sacramento City College: 1st, 332; Sierra College: 2nd, 335; American River College: 3rd; 367; Butte College: 4th, 371; Shasta College: 373; Napa College: 6th, 393. Modesto City College and Laney College did not field full teams. Next match: At Home. The Golf Club of Tierra Oaks, Redding. Tee Time: Noon. Shotgun Start.
Knights in Rain and Wind
RACHAEL BARRY CONTIUES TO LEAD
(10/16/07-Coach Szody) Morgan Creek Country Club was the site for the 11th match of the women’s golf season. The weather was cool, breezy and wet. The golf course was in great shape as always. The rain and wind presented some problems for most of the contestants. After a rocky start, Shasta Lady Knight Rachael Barry pulled her game together and shot a very decent 85. She continues to hit her driver very strong. Barry stated that she had trouble with the very wet sand in the bunkers which resulted in her having earned three double bogeys. Megan Morgan struggled with a few issues with the very wet sand in the bunkers as well. She shot a 106. Weather and wet sand just wasn’t a good combination for Morgan this week. Caitlyn Zielenski continues to play steadily. Caitlyn shot a 90 today, again flirting with getting her scores into the 80’s. Caitlyn’s swing is looking more fluid and consistent these past two weeks. Her direction off the tee with driver has improved immensely, along with her distance. I look for her to finish strong this season. Elisa Coyle was shooting a good round until getting backed up on the course and having to wait an inordinately long time to finish the last three holes of the round. The cold, wet, weather caused her back to seize, and she was barely able to play the last three holes of the round. The last three holes added 24 strokes to her round. She tallied a 101 for the day. The Lady Knights finished in fourth place with a score of 382. Sierra College beat out Sacramento City College 337 to 341. Third place was earned by Butte College with a score of 379. American River College shot a team score of 412 to finish in fifth place. Napa College finished in 7th place with a team score of 468. Modesto City College and Laney College did not field full teams this match. The Lady Knights are going to have to drop a few strokes next week to stay in front of Butte College. Butte College’s team score are coming down and they are becoming strong contenders for the third place ranking in the Big 8. Coach Szody feels that the Lady Knights can improve over the next few matches to secure the third place position. That is definitely the team goal on Thursday…finish in front of Butte College. The next match will be played at Bartley Cavanaugh Golf Course in Sacramento.
Tee Time is noon.

Kennedy Park Match
RACHAEL BARRY LOW WITH 89
(10/12/07-Coach Szody)
Every now and then a golf course just doesn’t fit the eye. That definitely seems to be the case for the Shasta College Lady Knights when addressing the Napa Golf Course at Kennedy Park. Conference Match # 10 was held at the Napa Golf Course in Kennedy Park. The weather was very pleasant and without much wind. The Lady Knights once again struggled on the difficult layout of the Napa Golf Course. Three of the Lady Knights out of the four, improved their scores over the previous outing at the Napa Golf Course. There are golf courses that simply play more difficult than the stated yardage and rating. Kennedy Park is just such a golf course. Rachael Barry was the low scorer on the Lady Knights’ golf team with a score of 89. Her score was ten strokes lower than her previous round on the Napa Course. Caitlyn Zielenski dropped strokes also shooting a much lower score than the previous match by posting a 102. Megan is getting to be more comfortable and assured with each match, she struggled today shooting a 109. Elisa Coyle is almost completely healed from her injury of about 8 weeks ago. She knew this course was not one of the easiest courses to score on, and was content with a 106. It seems everyone struggled today, just trying to hang on and not post too big a number. The goal for today was to salvage a score rather than shoot a good score. Sierra College beat out Sacramento City College, 349 to 359. Third place this week was earned by Butte College with a team score of 390. Fourth place was taken by American River College with a team score of 405. Shasta college took fifth with a team score of 406. Sixth place was Napa College with a score of 408. Laney College finished with a score of 416 to take the 7th place spot. Modesto Jr. College did not field a full team. The Medalist for the match was Tiffany Krusemarck from Butte College with a very nice 77. She was the only golfer to shoot in the 70’s on this day. Runner-up was Amy Cowan from Sierra College with a score of 82. Match # 11 will be held at Morgan Creek Country Club in Roseville on Tuesday, October 16th The tee time will be noon.

Knights Solid Third
BEAT BUTTE BY SEVEN STROKES
(10/9/07-Sacrmaneto-Coach Szody) Shasta College Lady Knights continue to hold strong to third place in the team standings of the Big 8 Conference. The Lady Knights played consistently today. Their team score of 351 was good enough to beat out the fourth place team, American River College with a team score of 360. The fourth place finish was the best finish of the season for the American River Beavers this season. The Beavers played good enough to top the Butte College Roadrunners by 7 strokes. Shasta Lady Knight Rachael Barry was the low scorer for the Knights today by posting a very solid 83. The second low score for the Knights was shot by Elisa Coyle with a score of 87. Megan Morgan was back within in normal scoring range today. Her 90 was a definite improvement over last Thursday’s score. Caitlyn Zielenski almost scored in the 80’s today. Her score of 91 was again within the ballpark of scoring in the 80’s. Caitlyn’s swing is looking extremely good and the ball flight is a solid draw again. Elisa Coyle enjoyed a round unencumbered by her shoulder injury. It was really great to see her scoring in the 80’s, her second career low round. The medalists for today’s tournament was Sacramento City College Panther Kristen Watson and Butte Roadrunner Tiffany Krusemarack with scores of 78. runner-up was Sacramento College Panther Kristina Casillas with a score of 79. A little more than half way through the season the team standing are: Sacramento City College: 137; Sierra College: 131; Shasta College: 103; Butte College: 94; American River College: 68; Napa College 53; Laney College: 14 and Modesto City College will probably finish out the season without a full team. The season is shaping up nicely and the balance of the season should prove to be interesting. Anything can happen! Coach Szody is very proud of the improvement made by the Lady Knights. With the hopes of three teams qualifying to go to NorCals this year, the Lady Knights are right on track. A decision has not been made as yet whether two or three teams from the Big 8 conference will be going to NorCals. As of right now two teams plus the 12 lowest scoring individuals travel to NorCals. The Big 8 conference is the largest conference, thus the request that three teams be allowed to qualify for the NorCal conference. The low-scoring 12 are included among the teams qualifying to compete. To be able to compete for individual scores, the competitors must be among the 12 low scorers. The next match will be on Thursday, October 11 th at Kennedy Park Golf Course in Napa. Tee off
will be at noon.

Rachel Back on Track!
KNIGHTS TAKE 3RD PLACE
(10/4/07-Coach Szody)
Lake Chabot Golf course offered up a challenging 18 hole layout for the women of the Big 8 conference. The most challenging hole was the Par 6 18th measuring almost 650 yards. Rachael Barry reached the green in 3 strokes. Her ball rolled up to the back of the green. The pin placement today was on the second tier of the green. The fast downhill eagle putt continued to roll to the bottom of the green. Barry still had a reasonable chance for birdie. Her uphill putt fell about three feet short. She was then able to sink the third putt for par. Elisa Coyle was able to bring her score down today shooting a 97. She is still recovering from the injury she incurred earlier in the season. Caitlyn Zielenski was able to handle the Lake Chabot layout today. She shot her lowest round of the season posting a very nice 90. She played extremely solid today and Coach Szody expects her scores will continue to improve during the rest of this Big 8 season. Megan Morgan struggled with her game today, but finished her round with a good attitude and looking forward to the next match. The medalist for the day was Sac City’s Kristina Casillas shooting a very nice 81. Runner-up was Shasta College’s Rachael Barry with an excellent 84. Sacramento City College again finished in first place with a team score of 348, followed by Sierra College with a team score of 353. Shasta College finished in third place with a team score of 373. Butte College came in 4th with a score of 385 followed by American River College with a score of 390. Napa College finished 6th with a team score of 460.

Knights 4th at Modesto
MEGAN MORGAN LEADS
(10/2/07-Coach Giovannoni) Del Rio Country in Modesto hosted conference match #7. Coach Giovannoni traveled with the team this week. Lynn “Jo” said the weather was good and the course was in great shape. Despite the good conditions, the Shasta College Lady Knights didn’t fair well in the tournament. Lady Knight Megan Morgan continues to shoot the most consistent scores amongst the Lady Knights. Morgan’s score of 91 was the lowest score shot the team. The 4th position golfer for the Lady Knights continues to suffer from the injury incurred at the beginning of the season. Hopefully, Elisa Coyle will resume her lower scoring ways at the Lake Chabot Golf course in Oakland on Thursday. Rachael Barry shot a 93; Megan Morgan shot a 91; Caitlyn Zielenski shot an 98; and Elisa Coyle shot a 111. The team score total put the Lady Knights in 4th place at the end of the day. Caitlyn Zielenski continues to maintain a good swing but has yet to shoot in the low 90’s. Hopefully the track at Lake Chabot will provide the venue for her to shoot a much lower score. She is certainly capable of doing so. Sacramento City College finished in 1st place with a team score of 332. Sierra College finished in 2nd place with a team score of 346. Butte College pulled out a 3rd place finish for the first time this season with a team score of 352. Napa Valley College finished the day with a 4th place tie. American River College shot a team score of 414 for a sixth place total. Laney College and Modesto College have yet to field a full team and probably will not do so this season. Medalist for the day was Kristina Casillas from Sacramento City College shooting a score of 76. Runner-up was teammate Kristen Watson with a score of 81. The Lady Knights are hanging on to a slim lead of 3 points over the Butte College Lady Roadrunners. A good Lady Knights team score on Thursday will be necessary to continue to maintain the 3rd place position. The next Big 8 match will be played on Thursday, October 4th at the Lake Chabot Golf Course in Oakland, California.

Morgan Shoots College Best
RACHAEL BARRY WITH AN 82
( 9/25/07-Coach Szody) The weather was perfect for Match #6 at Bidwell Golf Course in Chico today. The course was in good condition and the greens looked extremely nice. The gals thought the speed of the greens was a little inconsistent and led to more than a few three putts. Bidwell Golf Course is known for having narrow tree-lined fairways. Megan Morgan broke soundly into the 80’s range today with solid ball-striking. Coach Szody felt it was just a matter of getting over a lack of confidence in tournament play. Her iron shots were extremely solid and helped her produce her college low round. Coach Szody feels with her new confidence she could begin to produce solid scores in the 80’s for the rest of the season. Her more positive attitude is opening up possibilities for even lower scores in the future. Rachael Barry started off her round with a terrific drive on Hole #1. Encounters with trees on subsequent shots forced her to post a quadruple 8 to begin her round. Barry’s tournament experience saved the day. After carding a 44 on the outgoing nine, she was able to rally back and shoot a positive 38 on the incoming nine to finish with a very nice 82. Her 82 was good enough to tie for the runner-up spot with Robin Fernstrom from Sierra College and Kristina Casillas from Sacramento City College. Caitlyn Zielenski and Elisa Coyle both shot 99’s today. Their scores are beginning to come down. Both Lady Knights are very capable of shooting in the mid-80’s. Perhaps the next outing at Del Rio Country Club in Modesto will afford both gals the opportunity to score low. Sierra College shot a team score of 347 to nudge out Sacramento City College by one stroke. Sac City’s team score was 348. Shasta College shot a team score of 366. Butte College came in with a total of 373 followed by American River College with a team total of 433 and Napa Valley College with a team score of 470. Laney College and Modesto City College were unable to field a full team, but are still hoping to do so in upcoming matches. The next match will be held at Del Rio Country Club in Modesto on Thursday, September 27 th at 12:30 p.m.

Rachael Medalist
KNIGHTS TAKE THIRD
(9/20/07-Jeffrey Jen Searchlight Article)
Playing your home course is a definite advantage in golf. It just wasn't enough for the Shasta College women's golf team to catch to Sacramento City and Sierra, the two league frontrunners. On the other hand, it was enough for Knights freshman Rachael Barry for break out of a three-match funk and grab medalist honors with a 78 at the Golf Club of Tierra Oaks on Thursday. Tierra Oaks was the site of the fifth Big 8 Conference match and Shasta finished in third, posting a 370. That was almost enough to catch the top two teams, but not quite. Sierra took first for the match with a 361, followed by Sac City at 364. Butte was fourth with a 390 followed by American River (432) and Napa (452). Both Laney and Modesto had three golfers, one short needed to field a team. Each team can send up to six golfers and the lowest four scores comprise of a team score. The Knights have the minimum four golfers needed, and all four do reasonably well. "This is a more even league this year," Knights coach June Szody said. "Sac City and Sierra always seem to be good, but if you have four players who can golf, you should be able to do well." In addition to Barry, freshman Caitlyn Zielenski shot a 93, Megan Morgan, out of Enterprise, added a 96 and Elisa Coyle carded a 103. Those aren't great scores, but they stacked up well against other golfers greeted with a rude introduction to Tierra Oaks. The 18-hole course is filled with undulating hills and fairways that are surrounded by trees. It is almost a wilderness atmosphere with an occasional deer sighting, wild turkeys lounging on the second tee or a flock of geese lined along the left side of the fairway on the hole No. 4. High scores are easy to come by, especially when balls go astray. Barry, a freshman from North Medford High School who turned down a scholarship to Corbin College to attend Shasta, carded her 78 by generally avoiding danger. "This is our home course," Barry said. "We usually come out here every Tuesday and Thursday and that helps a lot. It's one of the toughest courses we'll play. A bunch of hills, lots of trees, narrow fairways. I don't think I had real bad hole the whole round. I had one 6." Many of the league's top golfers weren't as lucky. The next best score was Sac City's Kristen Watson's, who shot an 83. Robin Ferstrom of Sierra shot an 84, followed by Sac City's Kristina Casillas (85). No one else broke 90. Shasta extended its season points standings edge on Butte, 58 to 54. Sac City leads with 77 points, followed by Sierra at 71. American River (38), Napa (28) and Laney (8) bring up the rear. The battle between the Knights and Roadrunners could be key since, with an eight-league team, there could be three league teams that qualify for the Nor-Cal Championships Nov. 5-6 at Teal Bend Golf Course in Sacramento. "It would be great to have a full team go there," Szody said. Shasta and rest of the league heads to Butte's home course at Butte Creek Golf Club on Tuesday. Tierra Oaks will be the sight of one more league match this season on Oct. 23. Reporter Jeffrey Jen can be reached at 225-8228 or jjen@Redding.com.

Morgan & Zielenski Shoot Low
SEASON LOWS!
(9/18/07-Sacramento-Coach Szody)
Megan Morgan sank a curling 25 foot downhill putt on green #14 to save par today at the Bing Maloney Golf Course in Sacramento. The par-save allowed Megan to shoot a respectable 93 for her season low score. Megan has played steadily thus far this season and her scores are coming down nicely. She has enjoyed playing the last two courses, and the camaraderie of her playing partners has helped her to produce the lower scores. Coach Szody feels Morgan is on her way to reaching her goal of shooting in the 80’s. Caitlyn Zielenski played very steady today at the Sacramento course. Her tee shots were consistently good. She caught a break on the 18 th hole when she snap hooked her tee shot into a brush pile that was left by the greenskeeper. She was entitled to a free drop without penalty. Caitlyn hit a beautiful recovery shot out into the middle of the fairway about 70 yards from the green. Her approach shot hit the green and rolled to within 5 feet. Caitlyn made her one putt to save par. It was a good ending to her round of 96, her lowest round thus far this season. With her improved shot-making Caitlyn will be breaking into the 80’s range. Rachael Barry improved her score by 9 strokes over last week’s score. Her score of 90 is still quite a bit higher than her normal low 80’s scoring ability. Elisa Coyle struggled again today but did improve her score today by 10 strokes over last Thursday’s round at Kennedy Park. Her score of 111 is still much higher than her average scoring ability. Her injury of a week ago is still causing her some problems. Hopefully by Thursday her game will be back on track. The Medalist today was Kristen Watson from Sacramento City College. Her 81 was very solid. Runner-up, Kristina Casillas from Sacramento City College shot a score of 84. Amy Cowan from Sierra College shot the third lowest round today with a score of 86. Team Scores: 1 st Place: Sacramento City College, team score of 352. 2 nd Place: Sierra College, team score of 357 3 rd Place: Shasta College, team score of 390 4 th Place: Butte College, team score of 394 5 th Place: Laney College, team score of 413 6 th Place: American River College, team score of 433 7 th Place: Napa College, team score of 471. Modesto City College has an incomplete team, no team score posted. The next match will be played at Shasta College’s home course, The Golf Club of Tierra Oaks. A shot-gun tee time will be at noon.

Tough Kennedy Park
KNIGHTS TAKE 5TH
(9/13/07-Sacramento-Coach Szody)
The weather in Napa was warm but extremely breezy with 25 – 30 mph winds. The course and greens were in fair condition and should have presented few difficulties. However, the scores produced by the women of the Big 8 golf conference show otherwise. The winds wreaked havoc with the field’s shot-making abilities. Low-scoring competitors posted abnormally high scores. Coaches advised players at the turn that scores were much higher than normal, and to basically “hang-in” and try to bring their scores down on the incoming nine holes. It wasn’t going to happen on this day. The only good news at the end of this day is that the entire field knows the two highest scores of the conference will automatically be dropped. I suspect that today’s scores will be one of the dropped scores for the season. The lowest score of 87 today was posted by Medalist Kristen Watson from Sacramento City College. Runners-up with scores of 90 were Michelle Stipanov from Butte College and Kristina Casillas from Sacramento City College. Tiffany Krusemarck from Butte College came in with a score of 91. The Teams finished: 1st: Sacramento City College with a team score of 377; 2nd place was Butte College with a team score of 380; 3rd place was Sierra College with a score of 396; 4th Place was Napa College with a team score of 398 and Shasta College with a team score of 425; followed by American River College with a total score of 451. The next match will be played at Bing Maloney Golf Course in Sacramento at noon on Tuesday, September 18th.

Coyle Shoots Career Round
HAGGIN OAKS NOT THAT TOUGH?
(9/11/07-Coach Szody)
Elisa Coyle shot her lowest round of golf on the Haggin Oaks golf course in Sacramento today. Coyle suffered an injury to her upper right arm on Saturday at the Gold Hills Golf Course when an errant golf shot from the driving range slammed into the golf cart in which she was riding. Elisa managed to play through her injury, changing gears slightly. Swinging the driver caused pain, so she opted to hit more irons off the tee. The strategy worked and she posted her lowest golf round of not only for the season but her golfing career. She called a penalty stroke on herself when she addressed her golf ball in the rough and saw it move. There really must be golf karma, as she watched an extremely long putt on the very next hole drop into the bottom of the cup. Rachael Barry struggled with her game today. She said she felt uncomfortable playing in the first group. She started out hitting the driver solidly and then the fairways seem to narrow during the balance of her round. Coach Szody feels she just made some untypical mistakes when attempting to recover from the tree-lined roughs. Caitlyn Zielenski played her best round of the season, dropping 6 strokes to card a score of 97. Caitlyn is hitting good shots and her scores will continue to drop. Her good work ethics will have her short game in good shape over the next couple weeks. Megan Morgan shot a 96 today. Her game is steady. She is experiencing a little discord with her driver and is looking to place it in “Time-Out.” She is experimenting with a couple other drivers to see if a different fit might bring a little harmony to the tee box. Megan enjoys very good distance with all of her clubs and will lower the scores as the season progresses.
