"TEAM LEADER "
Head Coach Craig Thompson has this to say about his star linebacker, "Jordan is the type of young man that makes a coach's job easy. He is one of our true sophomore leaders who always displays a positive, team first attitude. Jordan has one the best work ethics I have ever seen in a young man. He excels in the classroom and gives 100% during every practice. He also did not miss any of our off season workouts! Because of these qualities Jordan has my total respect as a person and as an athlete."
Knight fans are also glad that Jordan has those outstanding traits!

Coach Giachetti knew that Willie Johnson would be one of the fastest sprinters in the GVC for 2006. What he didn't know was how tough a competitor he is. In his first event of the day at the GVC meet, the long jump, Willie strained a hamstring. All Willie did after that was win four events and help the Knight men end a five year drought in winning the 2006 GVC track championship. Willie took firsts in the long jump, 100 meters, 200 meters and anchor the 4 x 100 relay. "Willie is a very talented athlete," says Head Track Coach Pete Giachetti. She also help score points for the Lady Knights in 8 other events as the Lady Knights once again took the GVC Track Championship. reached her stride. "Right now Caelen is the best wing player in

have coached here at Shasta College, and that is saying something.
She is the complete player, and when her shot is falling she is

"INTENSE PLAYER, GREAT SHOOTER"
One reason the Knights men's basketball team will end up
as Golden Valley Conference Champions is because of the play of
sophomore guard Jon Baird. "Jon has been a bright spot for the Knights the past two seasons," says Head Coach Kele Fitzhugh. "He is a
great shooter and is also a team player. This season he has been
our most consistent player, both offensively and defensively. Jon
is also a great practice player, he practices as hard as he plays in
games. There is definitely a direct correlation between his work
ethic and his success on the court. Jon will be heavily recruited
this off season."

"PLEASANT SURPRISE "
One of the nicest surprises that Head Coach Jerry Brown has had this basketball season was when freshman Katie Wilson decided to try the hardwood once again. Katie was a star performer for the Knight volleyball and track teams the past two seasons but had not played basketball since her days at Maxwell High School. "It did not take Katie long to show that she has some skills on the basketball court," said Head Coach Jerry Brown. "She gets better everyday. I have so much respect for Katie as a player and as a person. I feel that she is the best center in the GVC. She is also mentally a very tough player. She is playing with a stress fracture in her foot, something that most kids could not or would not do. She is making a big sacrifice for the team and we would not be were we
are without her." Katie has had 5 double/doubles this season. Recently in a big win against COS Katie had a game high 27 points!

"ALL AROUND PLAYER"
One reason the Knights men's basketball team is having a successful season is because of the play of sophomore Hayden Heiber from Red Bluff High School. "Hayden is finally getting completely healthy," says Head Coach Kele Fitzhugh. "Hayden had a few early season injuries that set him back a little. Lately he has come through in the clutch in a big way. Hayden has really stepped up his game since conference play has started. He is a well rounded player, Hayden has always been a great scorer but now he also plays great defense, rebounds well and he finds the open man with great passes. He is one of the best "scorers" I have had here in nine seasons. One of the reasons we went on to a 22 point win over Lassen was because of his defense, that really sparked the team." Hayden definitely has the ability to play at the next level, there is a school
out there that will be getting a great player!

Career Game

From a Family of Quarterbacks
STATE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
With a team oriented game like football your teammates must
play well for you to earn individual awards. Last week that is exactly
what happened to the Knight's football team. The defense played well, the offensive line played well, the wide receivers played well and so did the quarterback, Chad Cavender. Because the "team" was playing well Chad had time to pick out his receivers and throw in rhythm. For his efforts last week Chad was named one of the state players of the week. "Chad picked a good time to have his best game," said Head Football Coach Craig Thompson. "For us to say in the hunt for a bowl game we need to get on a hot streak, hopefully this started one for us. Chad was just outstanding against Redwoods, the offense ended up with 455 total yards, our best of the season. We also had him kick the extra points and he made them all!" The complete line on stats for the Redwoods game had Chad completing 22-of-33 passes for 267 yards and four touchdowns. He added 95 rushing yards and two running scores, giving him 362 yards of total offense and six combined touchdowns. Great job Chad!

Hat Trick and Leading Scorer
It is not very often that a coach will use the term "brilliant" when
describing one of his athletes. Head Men's Soccer Coach Rich Bourne used that exact term when he talked about his star soccer player, Pascal Boutin. "Pascal is very fast and skilled on the soccer field," said coach Bourne. "He knows the game and can turn the game in our favor with a moment of brilliance. He is our captain and he leads by example, he is very gifted. I would love to have 10 more players just like him but they are kind of hard to come by." Pascal gave a demonstration of his soccer "brilliance" when he had a hat trick (3 goals) in a 4-2 Knight victory
over Evergreen College from San Jose giving the Knights their first
win on the season.
