KNIGHT TENNIS 2008

League Champions
Men's-1958, 1959
Women's-1978, 1980, 1987, 1988, 1991, 1994

Outlook

The 2008 season will be Coach Frank Gutierrez’s 24th year as Shasta College Head Tennis Coach. Under Coach Gutierrez, Shasta’s had several singles players qualify for the state championships with Todd Stanley out of Shasta High winning the State Singles Championships in 1985.

This season Coach Gutierrez is excited about the team’s outlook. Shasta has fielded a good group of student athletes for the men’s and women’s teams. It’s too early in the year to determine the lineup for the teams, especially the Lady Knights as all the athletes are close in their abilities. Both men and women
are all first season players except for one male athlete.

Alex Geautraux from Mt. Shasta High School appears to be the strongest of the men followed closely by Shinn Gabriele of Anderson High and Jeff Schirmann from Eureka High. John Smith of Downieville High is coming off an injury and is quite the competitor when healthy. Andy Martin, a graduate of Willows High School, is a scrapper and can hold his own against the athletes listed above. Our only sophomore back for his second season is Mercy High grad, Anthony Gilbert. Rounding out the Knights are Josh Harp, a West Valley High School graduate, and Cross-Country Athlete Tyler Bowman, graduate of Foothill High School. Coming off the baseball field and on to the tennis courts, is Blair Ragsdale, also from Foothill High. Blair looks to have the skills to be in
the top four.

The Lady Knights were all successful in their respective leagues in high school. The vocal athletes out of West Valley High School are Reagan Miller and Lisa Mauck. The Colusa High School twin graduates, Melissa Buist and Kristen Buist look to be ready for competition as does hard-working Willows High School graduate, Kelly Dunn. Feisty, scrappy athletes out of Central Valley High School are Kayti Laam and Molly Scott. The Lady Knights are rounded out with one of our most dedicated players, Alaina Piland, a
Eureka High School graduate.

We look forward to these athletes representing Shasta College
on the courts and in the classroom.
