Homework Assignments and Tests |
|
Homework Assignments: The student must complete homework assignments associated with each lesson. These assignments are accessed, submitted and automatically graded on-line, through the evaluation tools of the WebCT platform. They can be accessed through the appropriate links on each Module's content page. They come in "quiz" format, but are not timed, nevertheless, they should be completed and submitted before the scheduled Test date for the covered material. The student is allowed to submit each homework twice. The best score of the two submissions is used in the calculation of the final grade for the course. Since these assignments are not timed, it is advised that the student accesses them and saves the answers as he/she works through the problems, but only clicking on the “Finish” button when the student is confident about the answers and the completeness of the work. The homework questions are delivered in "quiz" format and mainly presented in either multiple choice form, or in a short answer request. The multiple choice form requires the selection of a radio button (by left mouse button clicking on the option) among the choices on the screen:
The short answer problems expect from the student to type a numerical answer in the box provided below the text of the question. The student should try to avoid the use of letters or symbols of any kind (eccept for numbers in integer or decimal form) when typing the answers. The answers should follow strictly the instructions given in the question's text regarding number of decimals and rounding required. Results should always be entered either as whole numbers or in decimal form, with as many decimal spaces as requested.
Once an answer has been selected (in the case of a multiple choice question), or typed (in the case of a short answer question), the student must click on the "Save Answer" box for that question, otherwise the WebCT system will not record the answer. Once the answer has been saved, it will appear marked as such on the summary table shown on the top right corner of the quiz window. Tests: All tests are delivered online and have the same quiz structure as the homework. The tests will be available 24 hours but only on the appropriate scheduled dates. They can only be accessed once, and they have a time limit which varies between 2 and 3 hours according to the number of questions and complexity of the problems. The student should make the necessary provisions to have during test time a fast and uninterrupted Internet connection. There is NO make up policy for missed exams. At the instructor's discretion, test proctoring may be required.
CHEATING: Since the goal of this course is the mastering of Algebraic techniques and procedures, the use of calculators or software that do the Algebra for the student are NOT ALLOWED, and their use is to be considered as cheating and dealt under Shasta College Math Department's regulations on such matters. The Math Department policies for cheating apply:
