What is the science club about?

We're just a group of people who like to get together and have fun! We have a few meetings per semester to discuss important issues pertinent to the science club. The best part about the science club meetings is planning the events. Our list of activities last year include:

  • Ranger-led kayak tour of Whiskeytown lake
  • Speluncking in the Samwel cave
  • Tour of the Shasta County crime lab
  • Tour of the Sierra Nevada Brewery
  • Whale-watching sea kayak tour from Trinidad head
  • Tour of Shasta Dam

Pictures from the sea kayak whale-watching trip out of Trinidad bay. Check out all of the pictures here.

Aug. 28
First meeting of the semester! Need to get some of the usual paperwork done but we'll also be planning some of the events! We will meet at 12:00 in Room 16xx (the one next to the science learning center, I can never remember the room number!)
Sept. 27
Kayaking on Whiskeytown Lake / Pot-Luck We will head up to Whiskeytown lake for a ranger-led kayak tour of the lake. From what Matt remembers, they had some rules that we must follow... I think one of the rules was that you need shoes (preferrably an older pair). As the tour is short, we have decided to have a little bbq/pot-luck afterwards. Matt will bbq some tri-tip and bring some of his world-famous (recipe shamelessly stolen from Safeway) pasta salad. If you have time, make and bring one of your favorite dishes to the lake! Please be at the Brandy Creek beach parking lot PROMPTLY at 12:30 as it takes time to dole out the equipment for the trip. Please also download and sign the above and linked waiver form.
Oct. 16
Second meeting of the semester! A brief meeting to discuss the next series of trips and possible take care of some purchase orders that may be still outstanding!
Oct. 26
Samwel Cave Trip The trip is going to happen on Oct. 26! For this trip, please fill out a waiver form at your earliest convenience and get to me (Matt). On the trip, it is important that you wear pants as there will be some moments of crawling! Also, if you have a bike helmet and a headlamp, we ask that you bring those items as we have limited equipment to loan out. We'd like as many people as possible to go.
